Establish a more professional identity for your Tumblr blog. Instead of entering your Tumblr URL to view your blog, visitors enter your domain name’s URL. For example, visitors could go to www.awesomestuff.com instead of awesomestuff.tumblr.com.

To Configure Your Domain Name to Work with Tumblr

The instructions below are specifically for GoDaddy. But the general concept applies to all Domain Name Registrars.

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. In the My Products section, select Domain Manager.
  3. From the Tools menu, select DNS Manager. The DNS Dashboard displays.
  4. For the domain name you want to point to your Tumblr account, click Edit Zone. The Zone File Editor displays.
  5. In the A (Host) section, click @ record.
  6. In the Points To field, type 72.32.231.8 <– Tumblrs Address
  7. Click Save Zone File, and then click OK.
  8. Log in to your Tumblr account.
  9. From the Dashboard, click Customize.
  10. From the Info menu, select Use a custom domain name.
  11. Enter your domain name without the “http://www.” For example, enter awesomestuff.com.
  12. Press the Return key to save your changes.
  13. It can take up to 48 hours for the domain name’s settings to propagate.
